This project supports a group of like-minded parents and carers who have children on the Autistic Spectrum, including ADHD, challenging Behaviour and learning difficulties. Parents and carers can meet up on the first Friday of each month for a chat and a coffee, helping to form friendships and support for one another.
What is Autism?
Autism is a lifelong developmental delay disability. It affects a person in many aspects of everyday life and can impact how they make sense of the world around them.
People with Autism face challenges with communication, socialisation and behaviour. They can have sensory difficulties, with things such as lighting, sound and taste and texture.
Autism is a spectrum condition; this means that whilst all people on the spectrum share certain traits, their condition will affect them all in different ways. The spectrum can range from people with autism who manage to lead fully independent lives to those who need a lifetime of support and specialist care.
The A Team are firstly a friendship group where the highs and lows of autism can be celebrated and shared. Whether you are a family of a newly diagnosed child, waiting for a diagnosis for had a diagnosis for a while you are welcome to come along and meet with other people in a similar situation.
There is also a very well supported Facebook forum for A Team parents to chat and empathise with each other:
